Greenhouse
Gas Savings
Plants harness
the energy from the sun to absorb carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere and fix the carbon
in useful, high energy molecules. Subsequent
combustion of these molecules to utilise
their energy releases the carbon back to
the atmosphere, and this closed loop ensures
the carbon neutral nature of our fuel.
As
with all fuels, there are some emissions
from producing biomass, for example from
harvesting and transportation. However, carbon
footprint analysis of our fuel supply chains
shows that large scale biomass will deliver
90-95% greenhouse gas savings versus natural
gas or coal through the entire life-cycle. |
